Elizabeth Weeks Hasty

Elizabeth Weeks Hasty’s career began in Scotland County NC where she taught for 30 years, retiring in 2008. After her retirement she continued to teach an additional five years in Marlboro County South Carolina. During her service in North Carolina she served as band director at Shaw, I.E. Johnson and Sycamore Lane Middle Schools, as well as several years as an assistant at Scotland High School. Many students in her programs were selected to all district and all state band clinics. Her bands participated in MPA in each of her 30 years of service. Most of those years included bringing multiple bands to perform with over 150 students participating in each performance. Her bands earned many superior ratings including consecutive superior ratings for all bands during her last 18 years in NC. In addition, her bands from Sycamore Lane Middle School earned many superior ratings at Carowinds and Fiesta-Val competitions.

Her service to our state included over ten years as treasurer and several terms as President of the Southeastern District. She has been a member of the American School Band Directors Association since 1987 and served as State Chairman of that organization while hosting the ASBDA National Convention in Greensboro NC. Liz has enjoyed serving as a clinician and adjudicator in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia for over twenty-five years. She has been selected as Teacher of the Year at multiple schools, is a NCBDA Award of Excellence recipient for the Southeastern District and she is a National Board Certified Teacher. She continues to be a strong advocate for public schools and for the past eleven years has served as a mentor to first and second year teachers in the Scotland County school system. Elizabeth Weeks Hasty holds a firm belief that the most impactful factor in student achievement is the quality of the teacher in the classroom.
