2003 NCMEA Fall Conference
Monday, November 10, 2003
President Neil Underwood called the General Meeting of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association to order at 3:05 PM.
The minutes and treasurerŐs report were read and approved.

were given to Music and Arts for sponsorship of clinics (Dr. Fraschillo and Dr.
Lafferty)
1) Award
of Excellence

2) NCBA
Hall of Fame
Ed Rooker, Caleb Moore, John Miller, Bernard Hirsh, Dr.
Wayne Pressley, Ray Babely, Jim Crocker, WW Jacobus and DC Cole.
The meeting was paused to allow family members of the Hall
of Fame inductees to leave.
3) Honors
Band Solos
a)
Corrections
were announced:
1) Middle
School:
Clarinet, Tenor Sax and Tuba are from Classical Festival Solos Volume 1. The Snare Drum is the
same solo as last year. The String Bass Solo is Romaneza by Etling page 24 from Solo Time for Strings Book 3, published by
Highland/Etling.
2) 9/10: Flute – from 24 Short
Concert Pieces
pages 24 and 25 – Polonaise and Badinere. Please note these are two
movements from a work titled Three Movements from Suite in B minor. String Bass – Barcarolle by Offenbach page 18 from Solo
Time for Strings
Book 3, published by highland/Etling.

Out
of range: Oboe, horn and low clarinet – students have the option to take
the range down an octave.

person needs to fix the clarinet solos.

The North Carolina Bandmasters Association, a division of the North Carolina Music Educators Association, officially recognizes and sanctions marching band as a viable and credible performance based ensemble in teaching music in a high school setting. We believe that marching band can be one component of a well-balanced, comprehensive instrumental music program.

necessary by clinic chairman), 2 Bassoons, 20 Clarinets, 2 – Alto Clarinets, 4 - Bass Clarinets, 1 – Contra Bass Clarinet, 4 – Alto Saxophones, 2 – Tenor Saxophones, 1 – Baritone Saxophone, 12 – Trumpets, 8 – Horns, 9 – Trombones, 4 – Euphoniums, 6 – Tubas, 4 – Snare/General Percussion, 2 – Mallet Percussion and 1 – Timpani.
