President
David Albert called the General Meeting of the North Carolina Bandmasters
Association to order at 4:02 PM.
Hall of
Fame nomination forms available at the front table – please complete and
return the forms before you leave the meeting.
Each
District Chair or designee introduced themselves and their districtÕs
recipient:
Central
District: Arris
Golden, Chairman, presented the award to Patricia H. Quigley.
Eastern
District: Perry
Ditch, Chairman, presented the award to Erik Harris.
Northwest
District: W.C.
Lanning, Chairman, presented the award to Ricky Harris.
South
Central District: John
Mode, Chairman, presented the award to Jim Hill.
Southeastern
District: Becky Falor,
Chairman, presented the award to Lance Britt.
Western
District: Chris
Ulery, Chairman, presented the award to Michael Robinson.
The
following were inducted into the North Carolina Bandmasters AssociationÕs Hall
of Fame. Each recipient received a plaque and made a few remarks to the
membership:

David Albert called the general meeting of the North Carolina Bandmasters
Association to order at 3:04 PM.
The minutes
were approved as presented.

on the NCBA Website for members to read. Hard copies will not be available at
meetings for the membership. Please read the minutes before each general
meeting.
The
TreasurerÕs report was approved as presented.
1. Officer
Nominations
Neil Underwood presented the following slate of officers to
the membership:
Treasurer: Deborah
Phillips
Secretary: Perry
Ditch
President-Elect: Richard
Holmes
There were no nominations from the floor and there was a
motion and second to accept the slate of officers by acclamation. APPROVED
2. Hall
of Fame Nominations
The
following were nominated for the NCBA Hall of Fame:
Ed
Benson, Scott Calloway, Robert Clark, Clark Edgerton, Levy Gaillard, Camilla
Graeber, Homer Hayworth, Edwin
ÒEddieÓ Harrington, Bob Love, Jack Pindell and James
Stokes.
3. All-State
Honors Band
Auditions: March
3, 2007 at East
Davidson High and Brown
Middle School.
Clinic: April
27 – 29, 2007
at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Jeff Fuchs will be our
site host.
Clinicians: Senior
High (11/12): Jerry Junkin, High School (9/10): Nola Jones, MS: Bryan Doyle.
Status
of 07 – 08: Due
to renovations at UNC-G, the clinic will be at the NC School of the Arts in
Winston-Salem for 2008. The All-State Honors Band Clinic will be back at the
University of North Carolina – Greensboro in 2009.
4. All-State
Honors Band Audition Report – Perry Ditch
Perry
presented the following information:
1)
Criteria
for the solos.
2)
Correction
for the High School (9/10) Horn scales.
3)
Correction
for the High School (9/10) Horn solo.
The Proposal will be posted on the state website. The
proposal will also be voted on at the 2007 All-State Honors Band Clinic General
Meeting.
5. Concert
Band Festival
a)
Updated
Festival list is on the NCBA Website.
b)
New
Music Clinic will occur at UNC – CH. A committee is being formed to develop
criteria for music to be added to the festival list.
6. Marching
Band Committee
– Mark Beamish
a)
Twenty-eight
state sanctioned events this past fall.
b)
Stated
accomplishments of the committee.
c)
Stated
goals for the committee for the coming year.
d)
Stated
that to keep improving the system, the committee needs feedback from the
membership. Please go to the state website and complete the feedback form for
the contests you attended this fall.
7. Website – Bill Pendergrass
a)
A link
is now posted to help Eastern Guilford High School Band program.
b)
All-State
Honors Band scales is now posted.
c)
Password
will still be used until all (if any) errors are removed.
4. Jazz
Band –
Jerry Lowe
Ed Benson, Camilla Graeber and James Stokes were inducted
into the NCBA Hall of Fame for 2007.
1. Band
Director Retention
– Bob Buckner
a)
Would like to form a
mentor committee to help young band directors.
b)
If interested to help
– contact Bob Buckner by email.
c)
Each district will have a
contact person for the committee.
2. Eastern
District All-State Honors Band Proposal
Proposal: All-State
Honors Band Clinic would be changed to a Thursday – Friday Clinic with a
Saturday afternoon concert.
The
proposal will be voted on at the 2007 All-State Honors Band Clinic General
Meeting.
3. Home/Private
Schools
a)
If there are any
concerns, send to the board of directors for discussion.
b)
Home/Private schools must
receive a unit of credit through DPI or the governing agency for home/private
schools.
c)
May need to change the
bylaws to be more specific.
4. Concert
Band Festival
There
is a conflict in the bylaws – will work to correct.
5. Arts
Coordinator Information
There is a document Arts Education Coordinators Meeting. We need to
address the concerns stated in the document and we need to be proactive.
6. Things
to consider:
a)
James
Daugherty: Honors Band Clinic – Send in all info on time!
b)
Phil
Riggs: Will carry over nominees from year to the next unless requested not to
do so. Complete the online feedback for the marching band committee.
c)
Dave
Albert: Complete the convention evaluation to improve our sessions. Encourage
folks to apply to perform at convention, especially middle school.
7. Things
to Celebrate
Dave Albert: Thanked
the membership for allowing him to serve NCBA and also thanked those who served
on the board
with Dave. Thanked Richard Holmes
and Phil Riggs for serving as officers.
Ed Rooker: The
Membership extends the highest commendation to President David Albert in the
performance of his
duties as President of the North
Carolina Bandmasters Association. Motion/2nd
– APPROVED
President
David Albert received a plaque for his service.
Dr.
John Ross from Appalachian State University was welcomed to his first NCBA
meeting and to North Carolina.
